If you wanna be cute I guess you can say caffeine. But, I’m really looking for what the average boomer would consider a drug. For me, its psilocybin mushrooms a few times a year. Weed here and there too

I frequently use weed. It’s legal in Canada where I live. I’m a square and afraid to break the law. Plus, legal drugs are safer and less likely to be laced with shit you don’t want.

I enjoy being high because it changes my way of thinking and makes everything seem funnier.

Endorphins. Just yesterday I did 1 km @ VO2 Max running repeats, and about 800m in I started feeling real good. Even my heart rate was slowing. I ended up overshooting the distance a little, and doing an extra interval; it felt so good.

Weed for regular use. But mushrooms changed my life. Can’t trip regularly though or I’m pretty sure I’d understand so much I couldn’t even semi-function in the world anymore.

I mean, where is the line between what is and isn’t a drug?

Sugar affects how you feel and is habit forming. Seems on par with caffine

High Fructose Corn Syrup is pretty close to a drug. It blocks the receptors in your mind that signal to you “Okay, I’m full, that’s enough now.” Even sugar doesn’t do that.

I know it’s not by definition. However it’s effects are clearly measurably like drugs and it’s hellishly destructive.

Companies put it in almost everything to make things taste ‘better’, modifying our taste and needing more for the same effect.

There’s a lot of research, also the old sugar cartel and documentaries to look up on this and of course it’s also related to the obesity crisis. The focus has been moved from sugar to fat decades ago to get sugar out of the public spotlight.

Long story short, I would consider it a drug. We’re at the point with sugar we were with cigarettes in the 80s.

    Mushrooms of magic.

Nontoxic, non-addictive, mind-broadening, easy to safely dose and for me and my fellow psilocybinauts, a very comforting, mother-earthy, wavy high.

I take them very rarely, as in less than once every couple of years, but they are my favorite altered experience by far.

    Weed.

I have this spot on a low mountain that overlooks the valley I live in. A big boulder sits wedged into the mountainside with a lone scraggly pine giving it some shade. I just like to sit there sometimes, smoke and think. Relaxes me from all the stress I feel.

Thats fair. I always pick weed over booze because I consider all the calories in booze. But, then I smoke weed and eat 4 dinners anyway so its a wash.

At least the 4 dinners aren’t empty calories, so there’s that. They actually contain stuff that’s good for you. So not really a wash. Plus excess eating doesn’t damage your body to nearly the same degree as a similar number of calories in alcohol form, you can just exercise it away, or shift eating habits to account for it.

Mushrooms a few times a year are great. LSD is also beautiful but you really need to plan a full weekend for the experience (start early on Saturday and recover Sunday) to get the most out of it.
