Seems like a pretty easy scam to pull off, I wonder how much money the people doing it make.

Lmao, you guys thinkt those are making money? Those are portal sites. They form a classifier for what porn you like and take you to a matching payed offering. They series of sites you clock through show which porn you like and are the precursor to click tracking on the start page where you select a category before a video.

The darker part if I remember correctly was that kiddie porn sites used to filter entry by those referrers. So police would not find them, but people that look for it would find that 25 layers down in one of those classifiers.

Before Pornhub, quite a bit. The better tube sites pushed the bottom feeders down.

BTW, if ID verification takes root in a few more big states, those type of sites are going to pick up again. They don’t give a shit about following the state-by-state rules. If they do get shut down or blocked, they’ll just spin up another one. Some people will use VPNs to access Pornhub anyway, but that takes a level of tech savviness.

You can’t ban porn, you can only ban (nominally) ethical porn. Yes, there are ethical issues with Pornhub. It has fewer issues than the bottom feeder sites that don’t verify their pictures or videos at all.

Similar situation to abortion. Can’t ban that, either, you can only ban safe abortion.

How does “it take a level of savviness” to download a VPN app, pick a server, and then press one button to connect?

It’s not the 90s anymore; your average person isn’t as incompetent with tech as you think. Even my boomer dad could figure out a VPN these days.

I used to run one of those link sites. It’s extremely difficult to monitize it unless you deal with really sketchy sponsors. Can’t have google ads on a pron site. I had a few afffiliates but they gave credits that I never got to a payout threshold. It ended up being not worth it and we shut it down.

Do you think we can make a bunch of websites like these that just link to one another without ever leading to a video?

Probably over 6 figures a year. The running costs are super low and they still get a good bit of use. They are way better at aggregating than PH. Oh just sucks at tagging and filtering and its categories are shit. The content is also low these days.

    Are those still a thing?

I remember in the 00’s they were everywhere, but maybe I just leveled up in my porn consumption where I don’t search Google for my porn.

Or really watch porn anymore. It’s all just reminders of how much I lost out on the previous 16 years.
